GOROKA PROVINCIAL HOSPITAL EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT / PROJECTS
Digital health & innovation
Our programme towards a connected, paperless emergency department.
02 / DIGITAL HEALTH
Building a connected department
Our aim is a fully digital, paperless emergency department, connecting clinical care, communication and training.
Developing our digital tools togetherWe are working with our partners Ailan Health Technologies, through Ailan Laif Inc., to develop HealthLink, DutyLink, REDTrack, ELDEV and REACT AI.
HealthLink, DutyLink and REDTrack are planned to incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) as they develop. Together, these systems will support our transition towards fully digital workflows.
01IN DEVELOPMENT
HealthLink
Clinical information & patient flow
A developing system to support registration, triage, patient tracking, clinical documentation and disposition, with AI integration and a trauma registry planned.
Project focus
The planned workflow connects registration and PNG IITT triage with clinical review, investigations, procedures and disposition. Patient tracking, imaging integration and AI capability are part of the development direction. A trauma registry is proposed within HealthLink to support trauma data capture, service evaluation and research.
This page describes the project; it does not provide access to patient records.
02IN DEVELOPMENT
DutyLink
Workforce communication
A developing roster and switchboard platform to help staff identify who is on duty and reach the appropriate team, with AI integration planned.
Project focus
DutyLink is moving towards a web-based staff interface, with voice communication and a local hospital server as parts of its planned architecture.
The focus is on duty rosters, contact routing and escalation. Operational access will be provided through approved departmental channels.
03ONGOING DEVELOPMENT
REDTrack
Resident training & assessment
Our platform for resident onboarding, attendance, assessment submissions and training progress, with AI support planned.

ELDEV
Emergency Care Learning and Development System
Our Moodle-based learning platform, through which all departmental learning programs will run.
Learning platform
ELDEV will provide the shared platform for our staff, resident and community learning programs.
05CONCEPT & ARCHITECTURE
REACT AI
Referrals, Escalation, Alerts, Communication and Triage AI
A proposed coordination system for tracking referrals and urgent events, reaching responsible teams, recording responses and escalating unresolved issues.
How REACT will support care
REACT is intended to connect clinical updates from HealthLink with roster and contact information from DutyLink, helping route alerts to the appropriate team and track the response through to completion.
The planned referral workflow covers submission, acceptance or redirection, transport, arrival and closure. Acknowledging an alert and accepting responsibility are recorded separately.
Development will begin with lightweight local capability, support for intermittent connectivity and auditable rules-based escalation. AI assistance will be introduced over time to help structure referrals, check missing information and draft handovers, with responsibility remaining with authorised staff.
REACT remains at the concept and architecture stage; these integrations and capabilities are planned.
06PROPOSED
Digital readiness
Baseline assessment & roadmap
A proposed baseline assessment to understand existing ED workflows and the requirements for digitisation.
Project focus
The assessment will help identify workflow needs, infrastructure gaps, staff readiness and priorities for implementation.
The intended approach starts with the emergency department and uses the findings to inform a roadmap for wider hospital digitisation.
